Ekadashi is considered to be one of the most auspicious days of the lunar cycle. There are 24 types of Ekadashi in a lunar year. All these are linked with various incarnations of Lord Vishnu.
Ekadashi meaning eleven denotes the eleventh day of the waxing (rising) and waning (falling) moon. In addition, these phases are named Shukla Paksha (rising) and Krishna Paksha (falling).
